Stuffed in a Famine

Psalm 4:6 presents a timeless question.
[There be] many that say, Who will shew us [any] good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

David relates what so many people feel. When will God shine his mercy and grace on us? When will we feel and receive His favor? When we are experiencing the tough times is God there? This question with all its implications has been echoed throughout history. I find myself asking the same question at times.

But as the next verse reveals David does not feel what many people are saying. In fact he says something that seems paradoxical considering all that he has gone through.
Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time [that] their corn and their wine increased. (Ps. 4:7)

David has greater joy in his heart than when people that do not know God, have the best in life. David says that even though everyone around him is saying, where is God? David is saying that he could not ask anything more of God. The times could not get better for him. He has learned that in spite of his surroundings he will trust in God

David echoes a thought that Jesus taught in John 6:53
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

David had learned that it is not what you have but who you have that makes the difference. When everyone was complaining of a famine David was stuffed. Not with food but with Jesus Christ. With the same fervency of David lets eat and drink the flesh and blood of Christ and then take this fantastic meal to the world.
